ISLAMABAD:

Pakistan can export a wide range of products to Lebanon and the business community should accelerate efforts to tap Beirut’s market for enhancing trade and exports, said Pakistan’s Ambassador-Designate to Lebanon Salman Athar.

During his visit to the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) on Wednesday, the envoy held detailed discussions with the business community to explore ways and means to deepen trade and economic ties between the two sides.

He assured the businessmen of extending all possible cooperation for strengthening business relations with Lebanon.

“The government of Pakistan is focusing on trade diplomacy to strengthen the economy and a proactive approach is needed to explore new opportunities in foreign markets for export promotion,” said Athar.

Keeping the Covid-19 pandemic in view, he added that online meetings could be arranged between the business communities of the two countries for interaction and exploration of new avenues of mutual collaboration, he added.

He emphasised that both nations possessed ample potential to cooperate in construction, tourism, power, education and many other sectors.

Speaking on the occasion, ICCI President Muhammad Shakeel Munir briefed the envoy about the prospective areas for trade and economic cooperation with Lebanon.

He highlighted that Pakistan could export many products to Beirut including marble and granite, mangoes, pharmaceuticals, surgical instruments, leather and sports goods, textile products, carpets and pink salt.
