ECP decides to hold LG polls in Punjab in April next year

Second phase of local bodies’ polls in K-P to be organised in March ‘22

ISLAMABAD:

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided to hold local government polls in Punjab in April 2022, sources within the polls supervisory body said.

It was further said that the second phase of LG elections in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa will be organised in March next year.

According to ECP sources, LG polls in Punjab will be held in the last week of April 2022 whereas the final list of delimitations will be published on March 22. After the completion of delimitations, the ECP will announce the schedule for LG polls.

Sources maintained that after the completion of delimitation work no delay will be observed in the election schedule.

The local bodies’ institutions in Punjab are completing their tenure on December 31 after which the election supervisor is bound to hold LG polls in the province within 120 days.

The polls supervisory body also decided to hold the second phase of LG polls in K-P in March 2022. The polls will be held in 18 districts of K-P including Hazara and Malakand Division.
