Armed clashes erupt over land dispute in North Waziristan

Armed fighters of Marsi Khel and Hakim Khel clans took positions and started firing at each other

NORTH WAZIRISTAN:

Armed clashes erupted between the rival tribal clans in Mir Ali over a land dispute once again on Sunday morning, causing widespread panic among the local residents in the North Waziristan tribal district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P).

Police told The Express Tribune that on Sunday morning the armed fighters of Marsi Khel and Hakim Khel clans took positions and started firing at each other at 6:30. They were armed with heavy and medium machine guns and automatic rifles.

“Both the sides occupied high ground in the hills. On this, local residents informed police about the advances of both the groups armed clashes so a large contingent of police was sent to the area who surrounded the entire area asked the armed men to surrender,” said a police official.

He added that five accused were arrested and others managed to escape and four AK-47 rifles as well as one light machine gun was recovered from their possession. An FIR has been registered against them,” he added.

The official informed that police had also arrested 21 accused who were involved in a previous clash over a land dispute during which several mortar shells landed inside the nearby houses and one landed in a school, injuring students. He said that the situation was now completely under control.
