Peace and Culture Chairperson and wife of Hurriyet leader Yasin Malik, Mashaal Malik has said that holding an exhibition on Islamic culture by the Russian Culture Centre was the best example of religious harmony.
She was speaking at inauguration of a photo exhibition titled 'Makkah and Madina' on Thursday. The Punjab Arts Council (PAC) and the Russian Culture Centre jointly organised the event.
The aim of the exhibition was to show the uniqueness of Islamic art, and educate the public about the origins of Islamic art in Russia and other countries.
“The exhibition was very important in the history of Islam, as it reflected an instance when Islamic artwork had been preserved,” she said.
Russian Cultural Counsel General Andrey G Fesyun said that this was their first exhibition within Punjab, after carefully studying Islamic culture.
He said that 10 per cent of the population in Russia was Muslim, and therefore, the programme was organised to promote interfaith harmony. He added that cooperation would continue to promote the culture of both countries.
Drama writer Naheed Manzoor said that the exhibition reflects the beauty of Makkah and Madinah, in which Russian, Iranian and Pakistani style works of art are displayed. She added that the promotion of Islamic art in Russia was welcome.
The exhibition was attended by a large number of people from different walks of life.
