Karachi bakery in hot water for refusing to write 'Merry Christmas' on cake

Delizia, a Karachi-based chain of bakeries, has found itself in hot water after one of its employees allegedly refused to write 'Merry Christmas' on a cake, citing an 'order from the kitchen'.

The incident was reported by a woman customer who went to the bakery's DHA branch to get a cake to make the most of the occasion.

According to the customer, she went to the store located in Khayaban-e-Jami branch to get the cake but the worker refused to inscribe the words on her cake, citing an "order" from the kitchen to not do so.

The incident caused an uproar on social media platforms, with people expressing shock at the occurrence, while Delizia is yet to respond on the development with a formal stance.

Surprisingly, this isn't the first time that the company faced backlash over the refusal to 'do the icing'.

In 2018, a woman was refused the 'Merry Christmas' icing and told that it was so, on the "company's instructions".

While some Twitterati called out Delizia for failing to comply with the demand, others simply attributed the refusal to the bakery being 'short of icing'. Some went as far to call for a boycott of the company. One social media user shared that it was an individual's act and didn't represent the 'company's policy'.
