Father of youth injured by police files petition

Separately, judicial magistrate extends remand of suspected fraudsters

The father of a youth who was shot and injured by a police officer during an anti-polio drive in New Karachi has filed a petition in a sessions court, seeking registration of a case against the police and district administration.

The petitioner argues that the policeman shot his son in the leg which had to be amputated. "The policeman ruined my son's future," the petition contended.

On December 15, an anti-polio vaccination team came to New Karachi Industrial Area for vaccination. The polio team was told that the child had been vaccinated two days ago. The doctor forbade the child to take any medicine when his condition deteriorated. Constable Alam opened fire on the orders of ADC Imran Rajput.

Meanwhile, the south judicial magistrate sent the suspects to jail on judicial remand in a case pertaining to collecting huge amounts of money by defrauding people on the pretext of giving them government jobs.

The case was heard before the court of South Judicial Magistrate in Karachi City Court. Upon completion of physical remand, the police produced the four arrested suspects in the court. The suspects include Junaid Iqbal, Jamil, Rehan and Muhammad Hanif. The court remanded the suspects in judicial custody till December 24.

The court sought a progress report from the police at the next hearing. According to the police, the suspects used to lure citizens by offering them government jobs in grade 5 to grade 11. The suspects have allegedly defrauded hundreds of citizens. Fake seals of other departments including Sindh Chief Secretary have been recovered from the suspects.

Fake offer orders of various departments have also been recovered from them. The suspects would offer jobs in SSU, Excise and Taxation, Food Department. They would also issue fake offer orders to the citizens and paid one month's salary to satisfy them.
