Innovation needed to achieve food security

Programme launched to educate farmers, promote innovation to increase productivity

ISLAMABAD:

There is a need to develop an interdisciplinary approach to address food security, malnutrition and water scarcity challenges in the country, emphasised Professor M Iqbal Chaudhary, Coordinator General Comstech - Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation.

In this regard, the Sustainable Agriculture, Water and Intelligent Ecosystem (SAWiE) has launched Pakistan Agriculture Network of Yield Enhancement (PANYE) to fast-track innovations in climate-smart agriculture across the country through a yield competition.

At the launching ceremony, Commonwealth Parliament Association Chairperson and member of National Assembly Special Committee on Agricultural Products Shandana Gulzar emphasised the need for innovative solutions to address food security.

After formally announcing PANYE, she underlined that the network would open new avenues to educate farmers and promote innovation to increase farmers’ productivity and income.

She invited farmers to take part in this competition to enhance agricultural productivity and contribute to the prosperity of the country.
