Double-take: Meesha Shafi has found a twin in the late Benazir Bhutto

Actor and Singer Meesha Shafi recently shared a viral picture of the late Benazir Bhutto decked up as a bride from the politician’s wedding on her Instagram story and pointed out the uncanny resemblance the two share. The Mein crooner compared pictures of the two as brides, coincidentally wearing the same colour on their big day, and the similarities are too stark to miss!

Benazir’s daughter, Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari, recently shared a throwback picture of her own wedding invite on Instagram, that included a treasured picture of her parents from their wedding. She penned a heartwarming note about how, through including that picture in the invite, she wanted to make the presence of her late mother felt during the celebrations.

With that throwback, the priceless picture of the late politician and her Asif Ali Zardari’s nuptial went viral once again.

When Meesha saw the picture doing rounds on the internet, according to her, she had to look twice to make sure it wasn’t a picture of the singer herself. Taking to Instagram, she shared the image and wrote, “I kid you not. I saw this picture on my feed and did a double-take thinking it’s me!” pairing it with a couple of shocked emojis.

She later cropped out Benazir from the photograph and compared it to her own picture from her wedding day to further prove her point about the uncanny resemblance the two share.

In previous years, the Aaya Lariye singer even expressed her interest in playing the iconic politician in a biopic if one is ever made, and how she would look certainly fit the bill as far as physical similarities are concerned.

However, in 2018, actor Mehwish Hayat revealed in an interview with a local news outlet that she was all set to star as the late former prime minister Benazir Bhutto in a biopic. The Load Wedding actor confirmed the news, stating that production is set to begin in the near future.

The announcement triggered a backlash from Bakhtawar over consent. The family was apparently not informed or asked before the film on their late mother’s life was planned.

Despite the backlash, the Punjab Nahin Jaungi actor re-confirmed her involvement in the biopic in 2020. In an interview with Desi Blitz, Hayat shed some light on the project. While keeping mum about the storyline of the film citing a Nondisclosure agreement (NDA) she has signed, the actor revealed why she chose the project."I am under a strict NDA about the Benazir project. I am not allowed to say anything further than what already is in the public domain. Putting politics on one side, as an actress I am really drawn to the character," she said
