Relative found involved in kidnapping of woman, son

Suspect heads gang of govt employees, including cops

KARACHI:

Police have arrested a gang of eight people who targeted the same family twice.

A key member of the gang was a relative of the woman and her son they kidnapped for ransom, police said. Significant progress has been made in the case of the youth who was abducted from Gulshan-e-Maymar.

The arrested suspects revealed that they had also abducted the mother of young Hamza some time ago and the family had also paid ransom without informing the police.

The eight arrested accused are government employees and highly educated. Police and Rangers in a joint operation arrested an eight-member gang involved in kidnapping for ransom and buying and selling non-customs paid vehicles.

Investigators said that Adnan Akhtar, one of the accused, was a close relative of the abducted Hamza and was the mastermind of both the incidents. Hammad and Umair are customs officials.

Accused Zeeshan is a trainee ASI in police, while accused Masood Khawaja is posted in Ajmer Nagri police station.

Accused Hassan Adnan is studying in the second year of LLB, while the accused Haris is posted in a senior position in State Life Corporation, the accused Zohaib works as an agent in KDA.

Investigators further said that during the interrogation, the suspects revealed that they had also kidnaped Hamza's mother and the family paid heavy ransom for her safe release.

The family did not tell the police about the incident. Even at the time of Hamza's abduction, the police were kept in the dark.

A ransom was paid at Sohrab Goth for Hamza's release. Investigating authorities say that the mastermind of both the incidents of kidnapping is Adnan Akhtar who is close relative of victims. He has a business and family dispute with Hamza's family.
