A police constable, Basharat Ali, was martyred when a dumper truck hit him while he was assisting citizens in removing a car from a ditch into which it had fallen. The deceased was 25 years old. Two other people were injured in the accident that took place on Sammundri Road. They were taken to a nearby hospital. Police arrested the dumper driver and registered a case against him.
The car had reportedly fallen into the ditch near Jahangir turn of Sammundari Road due to speeding. Constable Basharat Ali was striving to pull the car out of the ditch with the help of people who had gathered at the spot when the speeding dumper hit them, leaving three men severely injured. Rescue 1122 personnel rushed them to a hospital after urgent medical treatment, where Basharat Ali succumbed to his injuries.
The injured men were identified at Zubair and Junaid. Upon receiving information about the incident, senior police officers rushed to the spot. Funeral prayers of Constable Bashart Ali were offered at Police Lines. Regional Police Officer (RPO) Imran Mehmood, CPO Ghulam Mubashir Mekan, SSP Operation Abdullah Luk, DSP Headquarters Ishtiaq Rasool and other senior police officers attended the funeral. He was buried in his ancestral graveyard in the presence of hundreds of mourners.
The deceased police constable was the father of six children. One of his brothers, Riaz Ahmed, was also martyred in a police encounter a few months ago. The inspector general of police expressed condolences with the family of Constable Basharat Ali. Local police completed legal formalities before handing over the body to the family and registered a case against the dumper driver involved in the accident.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar expressed deep sorrow and grief over the death of a police official in an accident of an Elite Force vehicle near Nankana Sahib. The chief minister extended heartfelt sympathy and condolences with the bereaved family. He directed the authorities concerned to provide best medical facilities to the injured police official. He has also sought a report regarding the incident.
