ANP mayoral candidate shot dead ahead of LG polls

Deceased did not mention any enmity with anyone, says brother

Awami National Party (ANP) leader Umar Khattab Sherani was shot dead outside his house a day before KhyberPakhtunkhwa local body polls on Saturday.

It is pertinent to mention that he was a candidate for the Tehsil’s mayor.

Speaking to the media, DPO Najm ul Hasnain said a case has been registered against two unidentified armed suspects on the complaint of the deceased leader's brother.

According to Sherani’s brother, the deceased did not mention any enmity with anyone. Police said five teams have been constituted to investigate the case.

These include at least three police teams and two counter-terrorism department teams.

DPO Hasnain further said the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and other evidence were also being gathered and the forensic team is also investigating the case
