Anjum Aqeel case: Police told to complete probe report by Aug 24

ATC orders investigation officer to submit challan at next hearing on August 24.

RAWALPINDI:

The Anti-Terrorism Court directed the Shalimar Police to submit a complete investigation report on the case against a Pakistan Muslim Leage-Nawaz (PML-N) MNA by August 24, the next date of hearing.

MNA Anjum Aqeel Khan and 43 others accused of forcibly taking away the legislator from police custody appeared before the court on Wednesday.

ATC-I Judge Malik Muhammad Akram Awan put off the hearing till August 24 after investigators sought time to complete their investigation in the case which was registered on July 15. The trial judge expressed annoyance over the delay by the police in completing their investigation and directed the SHO to come up with the final report on the next date of hearing.

All accused in the case have obtained either post-arrest or pre-arrest bail from the trial court. The court also asked senior officials of the Islamabad police to take departmental action against the investigation officer of the case for forging facts during the investigation.

The officer had initially shown evidence that the MNA was unarmed but later stated they were armed with heavy weapons as the men took away the legislator from police custody last month.
