Kim Kardashian has formally requested to be declared legally single amid her ongoing divorce with rapper Kanye West, with whom she shares three children.
A report by TMZ stated that the reality TV star wishes to separate her marital status from issues related to custody and property, aiming to have her maiden name restored. Kim filed for divorce from Kanye after nearly seven years of marriage earlier this year in Februray.
Kanye continues his public pleas for reconciliation with Kim, with the most recent attempt on Thursday, where the rapper dedicated his song Runaway to his ex while performing at an event. After singing the lyrics, “I need you to run back to me, baby,” the rapper specified his ex by name, saying, “More specifically, Kimberly.”
In a podcast appearance in November, the rapper went as far as to say that he “hadn’t seen any paperwork” and that he was still very much together with his “wife”. He asserted, "And I ain't never even seen the papers, we're not even divorced," adding, "That ain't no joke to me. My kids want their parents to stay together. I want ... us to be together."
A source told People magazine after Kanye’s public declaration at the concert that while Kim is aware of the rapper’s thoughts, she prefers to ignore them. "She isn't surprised that he pleads in public for her to run back to him. She is just trying to be respectful about it."
The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star has recently been dating comedian Pete Davidson, with the source explaining that Kim has “moved on”.
