Sarwar says new local govt law will empower people

Punjab Governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar has approved the Punjab Local Government Act 2021, paving the way for local government elections on a party basis.

Already approved by the provincial cabinet, Sarwar signed the ordinance at the Governor’s House on Saturday.

Principal Secretary to Governor Dr Rashid Mansoor, Special Secretary to Governor Omar Saeed and other senior officials were present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, the governor said the new local government system will empower the public in a true sense.

“The new local government system will make people of Punjab stronger and prosperous. Prime Minister Imran Khan has been promising a strong local government system in Punjab from day one and today his promise has been fulfilled with the passage of new local government ordinance,” he maintained.

He said the Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government will ensure all possible measures for the development and prosperity of Pakistan. “The development and prosperity of the people of Pakistan is the first priority of the PTI government for which it is ensuring transparency and merit in all institutions,” he remarked.
