Hike in gas prices sparks disparity

The government of Punjab will leave no stone unturned to support smooth functioning and growth of the export industry in the province in a bid to maintain the uptrend in exports, said Punjab Minister for Industries and Trade Mian Aslam Iqbal.
Speaking to a delegation of the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (Aptma) on Tuesday, he added that the government had pinned high hopes on the export-oriented sector for creation of jobs and new investment in the country.
He further assured the textile sector stakeholders of highlighting the issue of gas price hike for Punjab industries with the federal government.
The minister agreed that the increase triggered a huge price disparity among provinces.

The rate of gas, provided to the export oriented units of the province, has surged from $6.5 per MMBTU to $9 per MMBTU.
Iqbal assured complete support from the government of Punjab to turn the export oriented industry competitive at a regional and domestic level.
On the occasion, Aptma Northern Zone Chairman Hamid Zaman briefed the minister about the disparity in gas prices between Punjab and other provinces.
