A man shot and killed his wife and fled from his home on Saturday.
Police said the suspect, Asghar Ali, son of Nizam Din, a resident of the 93GB area, had married Parveen Bibi, a resident of 336GB, 16 years ago.
Reportedly, the suspect was mistrustful towards his wife and, therefore, she was not allowed to go out of the house.
On the day of the murder, the victim went out of the house without her husband’s permission.
The suspect shot her with a pistol over leaving the house without his permission.
The victim was rushed to a hospital, where she succumbed to injuries.
Police took the body into custody and shifted it to a hospital for postmortem. They also raided some places after registering a case to arrest the husband of the deceased who had fled from the scene.
The police registered the case against the suspect under Sections 302 and 311 of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) on the complaint of the victim’s sister Sakina Bibi.
Cases where women are killed in the name of pride and honour are not uncommon in Punjab. In October, two sisters were burnt alive along with five other people in a house in a similar case.
The police said the incident was initially declared the result of short circuit, resulting in the death of two sisters, four children, including an infant and a 65-year-old person.
However, Dera Ghazi Khan Regional Police Officer (RPO) Faisal Rana ordered a reinvestigation of the case.
The inquiry report revealed that the suspects identified as Sabir and Sajjad, with the help of Zawar, had set their sisters Khursheed Bibi and Fuzia Bibi on fire along with their children.
The police said the suspects were enraged because their sisters got married of their choice several years ago.
Case of violence against women are rampant in Punjab. In June, aA man allegedly beat his wife and daughter to death over a petty dispute in Tandlianwala, a small town Faisalabad district.
Reportedly, after not getting Rs500, the deranged man beat his wife and daughter to death with a stick.
Police handed over the bodies to the relatives after postmortem and arrested the suspect after registering a case against him.
According to the police report, Saleem, son of Wariam, a resident of Gulshan-e-Rehman Colony on the outskirts of Tandlianwala, demanded Rs500 from his wife, 42-year-old Farzana Bibi.
The suspect’s wife refused to give him the money.
In a fit of rage, Saleem started beating his wife with a stick he found lying in the house.
The suspect allegedly hit her on the head multiple times.
Meanwhile, the 18-year-old daughter of the suspect, Umm-e-Kulsoom, came to save her mother. She managed to stop the physical assault but the suspect then started hitting her on the head with the stick.`
As a result, the suspect’s daughter succumbed to her injuries on the spot while his wife was rushed to Civil Hospital in a critical condition. Farzana breathed her last in the hospital.
