Xiaomi’s smartphone production to commence in Pakistan as PTA grants license to Select Technologies

Xiaomi's manufacturing partner in Pakistan anticipates production of 2.5-3 million handsets per year

Select Technologies Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of Air Link, has been granted a manufacturing license by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to produce Xiaomi phones in Pakistan.

With over 16 hubs & regional offices, 1100+ wholesalers and 4,000+ retailers in all major cities of Pakistan, Air Link Group manufactures mobile phones for Transsion Holding's major brands, such as Tecno & itel.

As a result of this license, Air Link Communications Ltd is the only company in Pakistan to hold contracts and licenses with two of the largest mobile phone companies worldwide.

Xiaomi, a global leader in consumer electronics and smartphones, recently teamed up with Select Technologies Pvt Ltd to produce mobile phones in Pakistan. The company estimates initial production of two million to three million handsets per year.

In addition to reducing import costs and creating jobs for the local population, this is an extremely significant milestone for the economy. A government policy aimed at promoting localisation and industrial growth has led to these trends.
