The ace Bollywood actor, Swara Bhasker, is known for her strong-headed and distinctive roles in films like Nil Battey Sannata, Anaarkali of Aarah and Sheer Qorma. While her onscreen persona is an inspiration for many, the Veere Di Wedding starlet employs the same willful attitude offscreen. She wears her heart on her sleeve and remains unfiltered and candid being herself in all aspects of life.

In an interview with ETimes, the 31-year-old actor revealed that she has enrolled to adopt a child and has decided to be a single parent. During the exclusive interview, Bhasker opened up about many vulnerable subjects catering to her personal and professional life, including her upcoming parenting journey.

Bhasker's visit to an orphanage earlier this year prompted her decision to take adopt. "I had visited an orphanage in March earlier this year and it was then that the idea of adoption first caught my attention. It kept lingering in my mind," Bhasker commented.

She further added that she researched the statistics and numbers of orphaned children needing a home which guided her perception of parenting. "Once you get acquainted with certain facts and numbers, then your perspective changes. That's what happened to me," she shared. "According to UNICEF data, we have more than 2.9 crore orphans in India. The worst part is, only 500,000 of those orphans are in orphanages across the country."

While it is a staggering figure, it wasn't the sole reason behind the decision, however, it definitely had a big influence on her. "The fact that the orphan crisis is so deep certainly played a part in pushing me in the right direction, decision-wise," she remarked, adding, "I have always wanted children and to have a family. And I feel, for a single person, adoption is one way to realise this feeling." Bhasker also expressed her gratitude and acknowledged her privilege of being able to afford to adopt a child while single.

Bhasker shared that she understands the responsibility that comes with it. She went on to assert that while it was an emotional decision for her, she is prepared to follow through with it after thorough research. She has also met couples who are in the same boat or have adopted previously and can guide her on how things work when the child grows up.

"Having understood the process and experience of adoption I finally decided I would enrol and wait to adopt a child and be a parent," concluded Bhasker.
