The Hollywood popstars ended their two-year-long relationship

Hollywood popstars Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello called it quits after reportedly dating for more than two years. The former couple announced their split on their respective Instagram handles with a collective statement yesterday.

They wrote: “Hey guys, we've decided to end our romantic relationship but our love for one another as humans is stronger than ever." Their announcements gave an impression that the breakup was mutual and the two have decided to remain civil post that. “We started out our relationship as best friends and will continue to be best friends," the statement continued. “We appreciate your support from the beginning and moving forward."

While their friendship remains ‘stronger than ever,’ the same cannot be said about their bond anymore. However, the announcement didn’t sit well with the fans of the Señorita singers. It came off, primarily, as a shock since the couple was spotted dressed up in matching Folklorico outfits for Halloween, paying a tribute to the Day of the Dead. In the pictures shared from the occasion, the singers looked nearly inseparable and completely smitten by one another.

They’ve been openly appreciative of how supportive their relationship has been for their personal growth and healing. Shawn and Camila moved to Miami to be with the Cabello family during the coronavirus pandemic. They were seen embracing each other and holding hands in public in the locality there. While their PDA news was raving, their reflective journeys also became news during that time.

The Wonder star, in an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, confessed how he felt at peace with the situation. “It was the first time I was quiet and able to be like, ‘What is happening in this world and how do I feel about it and what can I do and where does this go from here?” He called the experience “the best gift I think I've ever, ever been given in my whole life.”

The feelings were mutual for the Cindrella star as well. In an Instagram post, she shared that Shawn makes her feel “braver, wiser, and better.” Thinking out loud about their relationship, she wrote, “When you're in a relationship with someone, it feels like they are this mirror reflecting yourself back to you—I constantly have to confront my fears, my anxieties, my insecurities, my patterns of thinking, my beliefs about life and about myself.”

The now-former couple never hesitated to put out their raw feelings for each other online. "It's not as simple as it looks in pictures sometimes. Sometimes, it's messy and uncomfortable and ugly. But there's nothing like the pull of the force that is love," she added.

However, despite signing up for couple counselling together, the duo did not work out. It looks like Shawn wasn’t Cinderella's prince charming after all.
