ISLAMABAD:

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has turned up the heat on the matter regarding former chief justice of G-B Rana Shamim alleging to have overheard former CJP telling an IHC judge not to release Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz before the 2018 general elections, saying the party would take it to parliament.

Addressing a news conference, PML-N Senior Vice President and former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said, “Justice Shamim has given an affidavit about the former CJP [Mian Saqib Nisar] without any pressure and the people of Pakistan have the right to know the truth.”

Abbasi questioned that if Nawaz Sharif could be sent to jail, then why not Saqib Nisar. “The efficiency of the country’s higher judiciary has been questioned in the instant matter.”

The PML-N leader said that the statement under oath by former CJ of G-B High Court has further exposed how Imran Khan was brought to power through organised and institutionalised rigging in the 2018 elections.

The former premier said Sharif was ousted as the prime minister and later through national politics not because of any wrongdoing but because of a carefully orchestrated scheme in 2017.

He said people wanted to know if a layman could get justice in a country where a three-time elected prime minister of Pakistan couldn’t get it, and especially when a chief justice could be involved in such practices.
