Marvel recently released the teaser for its upcoming TV show, Ms Marvel, based on the superhero of Pakistani origin. The series is set to debut on Disney+ and stars Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan aka Ms Marvel.
The latest teaser offers a look at one of the newest members of the Marvel Studios superhero squad, with the story of Ms Marvel following a 16-year-old Pakistani-American from New Jersey with the ability to shapeshift. The plot of the series has been kept tightly under wraps, with the trailer maintaining much of mystery. However, it does offer a glimpse at Kamala’s superpowers.
Kamala, who is a Captain Marvel (played by Brie Larson in the MCU) superfan, exhibits similar powers of energy absorption and manipulation, according to Screen Rant. In the comics, Kamala is imbued with shapeshifting powers following the activation of her dormant Inhuman genes, which leads her to shoulder the responsibilities of a superhero, following the footsteps of her idol, Captain Marvel. The series is set to premiere on Disney+ in the summer of 2022.
According to BBC entertainment journalist Haroon Rashid, who took to Twitter to announce the possibility, actor Fawad Khan will also be starring in an episode of the series. “Wow! Fawad Khan set to appear in Ms Marvel – the Disney+ series about Marvel’s first titular Muslim character. He’s listed on the show’s official IMDb page. Farhan Akhtar, Nimra Bucha and Samina Ahmad are reportedly part of the cast too. Marvel yet to comment. Amazing if true,” he tweeted.
Following her success in the ZEE5 web series Churails, it was reported that Bucha is also all set to make her way into the MCU with Ms Marvel. Although her role has not been specified and she has made no mention of it on social media either, the website has confirmed her presence. The series will also feature Aramis Knight, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Matt Lintz, Yasmeen Fletcher, Laith Naki, Azher Usman and Travina Springer.
The episodes will be directed by Adil El Arbi, Bilall Fallah of Bad Boys for Life, Meera Menon of The Walking Dead, Dirty John and Outlander, as well as Academy Award-winning Pakistani director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.
