HARIPUR:

A case was registered against police officials for keeping a youngster in illegal confinement and torturing him.

Senior police officials have also suspended the Kot Najibullah Police Station House Officer (SHO) for his negligence.

Sources said that the victim, Ehtisham, a resident of Nartopa, was kept in illegal confinement by the Kot Najibullah police for several days and allegedly tortured him in a cell.

After hearing about the alleged manhandling of the police, locals staged a protest outside the police station.

Haripur District Police Officer Kashif Zulfiqar took notice of the protest of the locals and directed Superintendent of Police Mujeebur Rehman to probe the matter.

The police officer met with the victim and his family and ordered to register a case against Panyan picket in charge Saeed Shah, Muhrar Javed and others after they were found involved in torturing the youth.

The sources said that the Kot Najibullah Police SHO was also suspended for showing negligence.

Sources said that some police officials of the Haripur police have established private torture cells, where they allegedly torture innocent citizens and harass and blackmail women.

The sources further claimed that transgender persons were also tortured and molested in the torture cells.

The sources said that the police officials had assaulted the victim and also put petrol on him.

Ex-Nazim Imran Alizai said the Haripur police remained involved in illegal activities and SHO Siddique Shah was earlier sacked over corruption charges, however,he had been deployed again.

He said no effective action has been taken by the Haripur police department against the black sheep despite the court orders and the suspended officials were being deployed at police stations of other jurisdictions.
