Schumacher denies retirement reports

BRACKLEY: Former world champion Michael Schumacher has refuted rumours that he was considering retirement and confirmed that he will ‘certainly be racing next year’.

The Mercedes GP driver said that he was committed to being on the grid in 2012 and may even extend his contract further.

“I’ll certainly be racing next year,” he said. “We’ll have to see how things develop and how much energy and fun is still there.”

Schumacher reaffirmed his commitment to turn Mercedes into a race-winning outfit.

“Despite rumours I keep repeating that you’ll see me in 2012, whether you like it or not,” he said. “The good thing is that I’ve a lot of support from the team.”

However, Schumacher admitted that a title challenge was unlikely because Mercedes was still too far off the pace of the front-runners.
