ISLAMABAD:

Around 0.7 million children will be immunised in the federal capital at 800 designated areas, including schools and health centres, as part of a countrywide vaccination campaign against measles and rubella that will start on November 15.

Children aged between nine months and 15 years will be immunised, adding up to 90 million vaccinated children across the country by November 27.

Islamabad Health Director General (DG) Dr Hasan Urooj revealed the teams will go door-to-door to relay the importance of education to parents, and urge them to visit the nearest designated vaccination centre. The official said they were planning to take the help of media houses, principals of public and private schools, and clerics for making the drive successful.

Health expert Dr Farah said rubella was an untreatable disease, and a child born having the disease could develop a hole in the heart, a small-sized head, or complete blindness.
