ISLAMABAD:

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Tuesday announced its final verdict in the Balochsitan’s local bodies’ elections case.

The ECP sought complete details of rural and urban councils, council formation plan, maps, and notifications, all the required details, to be produced before the ECP within two weeks. Otherwise, the ECP announced, it will start the demarcation process in Balochistan on December 6 on its own.

The ECP has announced the verdict in the case related to local bodies’ elections in Balochistan. The decision said details of rural and urban local councils, council formation plan including maps and notifications, should be provided in the given time.

The ECP has warned that the orders should be obeyed otherwise it will act accordingly.

The decision further said that provincial office of the Election Commission of Pakistan in Balochistan should start planning for demarcation too. The decision has been signed by members Nisar Ahmad Durrani and Shah Muhammad Jatoi.

On the other hand, local bodies’ elections in Khyber-Pakthunkhwa (K-P) province are expected to be postponed due to a conflict on funds between ECP and provincial government. The K-P government has not released funds for the local government polls and due to this the ECP has no option but to postpone the polls if timely action is not taken.

“The finance department of K-P is using delaying tactics in release of funds for elections despite the fact that the electioneering is going on in full swing,” said an official, adding that the delay in funds could impact the demarcations process too.

ECP has already demanded funds from the provincial government.
