Slight uptick in single-day Covid death toll

NCOC says national positivity ratio during 24 hours remains 1.32%

The single-day death toll from Covid-19 showed an upward trend, rising to 19 during the past 24 from 10 a day ago, the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) said in its daily update of the pandemic on Thursday.

The NCOC, the nerve centre of the government unified effort against the global pandemic, said the national tally of active Covid-19 cases rose slightly to 22,577 as 580 more people tested positive for the virus while 554 people recovered from the disease during the last 24 hours.

Out of the 19 deceased Covid-19 patients, the NCOC said, 18 were under treatment in different hospitals and one passed away at home. Nine of them expired on ventilators, the forum added. Most of the deaths occurred in Sindh followed by Punjab.

Among the active cases, the forum said, 1,309 patients were admitted to various Covid-dedicated healthcare facilities across the country. There were 1,247 Covid-19 infected patients under treatment in critical condition, including 144 on ventilators.

The national Covid positivity ratio during the past 24 hours was recorded at 1.32%, the NCOC said. As of Thursday, the national caseload from the disease stood at 1,275,158, including 1,224,085 recoveries. The nationwide death toll had risen to 28,496.
