Zuckerberg predicts Metaverse will be mainstream in 5-10 years

Mark Zuckerberg has announced that the new Metaverse is dedicated towards the future, in bringing people together.

In Connect 2021, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg admitted that his recently rebranded company, Metaverse is dedicated towards the future, to bringing people together. He aims to shift his primary focus on Metaverse rather than Facebook, admitting that “We will invest many billions for years to come before the metaverse reaches scale."

Zuckerberg announced that the new experience will be unique and teleportation would be a vital component; where a person can move from one virtual room to another. He said, “Teleporting around the metaverse will be like clicking on a link, it will be a common standard. We're already building an API to support this kind of interoperability."

In the Connect session Zuckerberg promised the world that he is focused on the future and striving to build new games, exercise routines, new opportunites to learn and be a part of the ecommerce universe. He went on to elaborate, “We have years before the metaverse is fully realized, so we have time to make sure that interoperability, open standards, privacy and safety can be built in." A company executive announced that the company will spend $150 million to train new creators to build immersive learning content and to increase access to devices.

The Facebook CEO, emphasized that the metaverse will be built by thousands of creators, while “entirely new categories of experience that don't really fit into how we understand computers today. This will be an embodied internet where you are in the experience and not just looking at it.” The new metaverse will consist of 3D avatars delivering services for work, gaming and hanging out.

The announcement in the session included a new social version of Home that will allow users to join via avatar. Meta will also release new set of controllers for exercise and a new headset that will allow users to wipe their sweat while working out.
