KARACHI:

Arresting a citizen in a false case and torturing him cost a police party dearly.

East Judicial Magistrate Javed Ali Korejo issued arrest warrants for five policemen including ASI Athar and SHO Aziz Bhatti police station.

A hearing was held in the court of East Judicial Magistrate in the Karachi City Courts regarding the arrest and torture of a man in a false case.

"The police stopped me near Aziz Bhatti police station and demanded Rs18,000 which I was carrying in my wallet," the victim Mir Baz told the court.

"When I refused to pay them, they took me to the police station and tortured me and later on a false charge of illegal possession of firearms was filed against me," he added.

The court had directed senior police officials to investigate the matter. The court issued bailable arrest warrants for each policeman. The court also issued a show cause notice to SP Fateh Muhammad Sheikh, who had submitted a vague inquiry report against the policemen.
