Yesterday’s match between Pakistan and New Zealand was a rather competitive affair, with the pressure on the team palpable through the screen. Although the team chased the target, a certain player missed out on something very important.

Taking to Twitter, cricketer Muhammad Hafeez revealed that he had forgotten his wife, Nazia Hafeez’s, birthday. He announced his mistake while wishing his wife a happy birthday. Hafeez also took the opportunity to thank ace tennis player and fellow cricketer Shoaib Malik’s wife Sania Mirza for saving the day by planning a surprise. Hafeez tweeted, “Happy birthday to my wife, Nazia Hafeez. I forgot, but thanks to the rescue angel Sania Mirza [for arranging] a birthday cake on time.”

Mirza bought a chocolate cake to mark the occasion and was pictured in a small intimate celebration with the Hafeez family last night.

It is Hafeez’s last tournament playing with the Pakistan Cricket Team, with the cricketer understandably wanting to leave a memorable legacy behind. During the recent match with New Zealand, Hafeez whipped out his bat aiming for a six but unfortunately was sent back to the pavilion after an outstanding catch out by the rival team, adding pressure on the Men in Green.

Given the circumstances, can this be settled as an honest mistake, or should the cricketer have exercised a bit more calculated patience? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
