PESHAWAR:

Four policemen were killed when their vehicle was ambushed on Mianwali Road in Lakki Marwat district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) on Wednesday night.

Police said that a mobile of Lakki police station was on a routine patrol outside the Lakki city when it was attacked by the miscreants, leaving all the four policemen in the vehicle dead namely assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Yauqub Khan, driver Rahim, foot constable Inamullah and foot constable Mustaqim Shah.

The attackers managed to escape unchallenged after committing the crime.

A police contingent reached and cordoned off the area and conducted a door to door search operation too but the attackers had managed to escape.

“The mobile was on a routine patrol on the Mianwali Road which is mainly used by trucks. They were just one kilometre outside the main city when they were attacked,” said a police official, adding that the attackers ambushed and fired at the vehicle and then fled under the cover of darkness.

Police sealed all the entry and exit points of the district and initiated a search for the attackers on Wednesday morning. An FIR has been registered against the unknown miscreants on the complaint of SHO Lakki police station.

All the bodies were sent for autopsy and the last rites of the slain policemen were offered at Lakki Police Lines with full guard of honour. The coffins were later sent for burial to their ancestral villages.
