ISLAMABAD:

The Supreme Court on Wednesday issued notices to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and PTI MPAs Arsalan Taj and Rabia Azfar in a case pertaining to the issue of restoration of petitions filed for the disqualification of Sindh Assembly member Faryal Talpur.

A two-judge bench, headed by Justice Sardar Tariq Masood, heard Talpur’s appeal against an order to reinstate a petition filed for her disqualification.

During the hearing, the court also issued a restraining order on the ongoing proceedings in the ECP regarding the restorations of petitions filed for Talpur’s disqualification.

It is pertinent to mention that the ECP rejected the petitions filed for Talpur’s disqualification. However, the Election Commission had restored the case at the request of petitioners Taj and Azfar. Earlier, Talpur had challenged the reinstatement order in the high court.

Following the dismissal of the appeal by the high court, Talpur had subsequently filed an appeal for a stay order in the SC.
