ISLAMABAD:

The International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) management has failed to implement the recommendations put forward by an inquiry committee after probing a sexual assault case of a student.

Education Ministry Additional Secretary Mohiuddin Wani had submitted a damning report to the education ministry after inquiring about the sexual assault of a boy in the hostel in June. However, the university management has swept the recommendations under the carpet and instead, promoted an official who had been found guilty of negligence by the inquiry committee.

The inquiry committee had held several officials of the IIUI accountable. However, despite clear instructions, no departmental action has been taken yet against the guilty officials.

The inquiry committee had also recommended removing the security in charge of the IIUI over negligence and concealment of the sexual assault crime. The IIUI management has, instead, promoted him.

The inquiry committee had also recommended installing security cameras on the IIUI premise and enhancing the security at the entry gate. The probe committee had also suggested evicting students residing illegally in the IIUI hostels. However, the university administration has turned a deaf ear to these recommendations.

Earlier, university officials had admitted before a senate standing committee about the appointment of vice-presidents in violation of court orders and they were still holding seats.

It was also admitted before the senate panel that the management also showed negligence in the case of a killing of a student last year by a sectarian student group.

It was also learnt that the security staff of the IIUI gave protection to the killers and helped them escape in an ambulance.

To divert the investigation of the incident, empty bullet casings were dropped at the incident site with the connivance of the police, it was learnt.

The senate standing committee was also apprised of the engagement of several students in ethnic and sectarian activities, with the alleged blessing of some teachers who use them for their vested interest.

The IIUI management has also failed to expel 18 students allegedly involved in anti-state activities.
