The Rawalpindi Bench of Lahore High Court (LHC) approved a petition against the commercialisation of Army Camping Ground Jawa Jhelum and Sarai Alamgir for hearing.
The court issued notices to the respondents and summoned them for arguments on October 21.
Advocate Arif Karim filed the petition in which the federal government, station commander Jhelum cantonment board, chief officer Jhelum Municipal Corporation and tehsil municipal administration Sarai Alamgir, have been made a party.
The petitioner said army camping grounds serve as temporary accommodation for Army troops in an emergency.

Currently, these grounds are being used as public parks and playgrounds, which is illegal.
The lawyer said the land of grounds should be handed over to those it was acquired from if they were no longer needed.
The petitioner cited the high court’s decision that Army camping grounds cannot be used for any other activity and if any of the Army If the property is in civil areas, then the rules of municipal and tehsil administration will be applicable to it.
He urged the court to stop commercialisation of both Army camping grounds.
