Alvi asks IT sector to meet global standards
There is a need to bring Pakistan’s information technology (IT) sector at par with the European and US standards besides ensuring data security, said President Dr Arif Alvi.
Talking to a delegation of Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI) on Monday, the president emphasised the need for one window operations in the IT sector to narrow the gap between the production capacity and the challenges of 21st century.
The president was of the view that business communities, like the OICCI, needed to develop liaison with the academia in order to have a market-driven approach within the existing infrastructure.
The government had put policies in place for business expansion and intellectuals in the IT sector needed to capitalise on these policies to contribute to national development, he added.
Highlighting the role of IT in economic growth, the president said: “Smart management of resources and adopting an IT-driven approach can produce positive results and overcome the adverse impact of Covid-19 pandemic.”
The president underlined the need for women empowerment and protecting the rights of differently-abled persons.
The delegation, led by OICCI President Irfan Siddiqui, appreciated the government policies and expressed confidence in Pakistan’s future.
