Forest dept to plant trees at SMIU

One of the major challenges Pakistan has been facing is climate change, says SMIU vice chancellor

KARACHI:

The Sindh Forest Department will provide 20,000 native plants to Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) Malir Campus, a statement said on Sunday.

The planting drive will start from Monday and will continue for a one-and-half month. The forest department will plant the indigenous trees, including ornamental and fruit plants.

During the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), officials from SMIU and Forest Department agreed that all possible help will be provided for the successful plantation campaign.

“One of the major challenges Pakistan has been facing is climate change,” said SMIU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujeebuddin Sahrai Memon.

Karachi Division Forest Officer Maqsood Ahmed Memon said that Sindh Forest Department has started plantation drive with the help of different government departments as part of the Ten Billion Tree Tsunami Project.
