‘Efforts underway to regularise differently-abled daily wagers’

Official says various departments have regularised 267 employees

Punjab Law and Cooperatives Minister Basharat Raja on Wednesday said efforts were under way to regularise different-abled daily wagers.

He stated this during a review meeting of the committee on regularisation of visually-impaired daily wagers at Civil Secretariat on Wednesday. The meeting was attended by Punjab Minister for Social Welfare Yawar Bukhari and officers of departments concerned.

Social Welfare Secretary Hassan Iqbal while giving a briefing said that the various departments had so far regularised 267 out of 562 employees. Basharat said that Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Bazdar had directed to regularise all the 562 visually-impaired employees of various government departments who were agitated due to the issues left unresolved by the previous government.

The directions were issued to the departments of agriculture, specialised healthcare, primary healthcare, higher education, home, housing, irrigation and school education.

The minister showed great concern over the delay in the regularisation process and directed the heads of departments concerned to ensure prompt and complete implementation of the directives of the chief minister.

He further said that the obstacles in this regard should be immediately brought to the notice of the committee and the secretary social welfare so that they could be removed timely.

Raja stated that concrete steps should be taken to regularise the remaining employees and a comprehensive report be presented in the meeting to be held after two weeks.
