KARACHI:

Sindh Minister for Education and Culture Syed Sardar Ali Shah has said that his government has ensured merit and transparency in the tests for recruitment of teachers prepared and conducted by the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Sukkur campus.

"The recommendations of the education department will be presented before the Sindh cabinet only after receiving the official results from IBA Sukkur," Shah said.

He was addressing a programme jointly organised by the Directorate of Private Institutions and All Sindh Private Schools and Colleges Association at the Boy Scouts Auditorium on International Teachers' Day.

The minister for education and culture said that the department of education was not responsible for handing out employment, but instead had the burden of educating the children of the nation on its shoulders.

Exposing harassment: IBA alumni demand student’s reinstatement

The event was attended by education secretary Ghulam Akbar Leghari, heads of teachers' organisations, a large number of tutors from across the province and other personalities associated with the education sector.

On the occasion, Shah's high school teacher Muhammad Bakhsh Khoso also addressed the audience. He said that if given a second chance in life, he would again choose to be a teacher.

Talking to the media, Shah claimed that IBA Sukkur had ensured 100 per cent merit and transparency in the tests. He added this was also proven by the fact that the children of the current education secretary and brother of the vice chancellor failed the test.

He said the biggest challenge of the recruitment process was to ensure merit and transparency at all costs.

"I made it clear to the IBA Sukkur vice chancellor that if a single job is sold for money or if any candidate is favoured, I will resign from the ministry," the minister said.

The minister said it was being demanded that the condition of minimum passing marks of 45 per cent should be abolished.

"If this is allowed, how can we find teachers who are experts in mathematics and science?" he questioned.

Shah said teachers should not only be honoured on this day, but every single day of the year.
