Member National Assembly (MNA) from the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Dr Aamir Liaquat Hussain has resigned from his seat in the lower house of parliament.

"Have sent my resignation from the National Assembly. May Allah Almighty support Imran Khan and PTI. Allah Hafiz," he said in a short message on Twitter.

Last year in July, Liaquat had stated his desire to present his resignation to PM Imran. Expressing his helplessness over Karachi’s load-shedding crisis in a tweet, he said he had asked the premier for a meeting so he could present his resignation in person.

However, the prime minister had rejected the resignation of his party’s MNA from Karachi and stated that he was proud that the TV show host was part of the PTI.

“You are an asset for Tehreek-e-Insaf, there is no need to leave anything,” Husain quoted PM Imran in a series of tweets. He added that the party needed him and would make Pakistan a welfare state and that he “respected the lawmaker for raising his voice for Karachi”.

The TV host turned politician shared that the prime minister told him that he was aware of the problems that he mentioned and that Karachi was the “most important city” for him.

Since joining the PTI six months before the general polls in 2018, Liaquat has issued multiple berating statements against senior PTI leadership including the premier, accusing them of sidelining representatives from Karachi.

He was elected to the National Assembly as a candidate of the PTI from constituency NA-245 (Karachi East-IV) in 2018 general election.
