K-P to hold public university entry tests

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to hold entry tests for admission in all public sector universities and vice chancellors will be consulted in this regard soon.

The government has also approved supplementary exams for those students whose grades were low in the recent matric and intermediate exams.

All eight Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education have been given a go ahead in this regard.

It is, however, yet to be decided how to undertake these exams. The chairmen of the boards have been directed to submit a final report in this regard.

Minister of Education Shahram Tarakai chaired a meeting in this regard which was attended by the eight chairmen of education boards.

Tarakai was briefed about the complexities that arose as a result of the recent matric and intermediate results.

He directed the chairmen of all the boards to hold a supplementary exam to help students improve their grades.

In order to address the awarding of unusually higher marks to the students in the history of the province, it was decided that universities will be asked to hold entry tests for admissions so that those who were unfairly awarded higher marks would have to compete for getting accepted into any university with other deserving students.

It was decided to take up the issue with the vice chancellors of universities in depth.

Sources within the education department told The Express Tribune that the final pattern of the exams will be finalised soon and they will be undertaken in November this year but it has been decided to hold another meeting to approve all these arrangements.
