OGDC makes gas, condensate discovery in K-P

Test shows flow of 13.69 mmcfd of gas and 1,010 bpd of condensate

Oil and Gas Development Company (OGDC) has made a gas and condensate discovery in its exploratory efforts at Wali well 01 located in FR Lakki, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

“Wali 01 well was drilled on December 2, 2019 as an exploratory well and it was drilled down to the total depth of 4,727 metres into Kawagarh Formation,” the company said in a statement on Wednesday.

“Earlier, successful testing was carried out in Kawagarh and Hungu Formation, which proved to be a gas and condensate discovery.”

Now, Lockhart Limestone, the third prospective zone in Wali 01, has also been tested at the rate of 13.695 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) of gas and 1,010 barrels per day (bpd) of condensate at choke size of 32/64” with wellhead flowing pressure of 3,050 PSIG.

This confirmation of the presence of hydrocarbon in the deep reservoirs has extended the hydrocarbon play area on the southwestern part of Bannu Basin and “de-risked exploration”, it said.

The company voiced hope that the discovery would positively contribute to mitigating the gap between energy demand and supply from indigenous resources and would add to the hydrocarbon reserve base of OGDC and the country.

Earlier on September 8, OGDC announced the discovery of new oil and gas deposits in the well.

“The well flowed at the rate of 11.361 million standard cubic feet per day of gas and 895 barrels per day of condensate,” OGDC Secretary Ahmed Hayat Lak said earlier in the month.

The size of the discovery stood notable compared to the ones achieved by the company over the past one year.

“Technically speaking, this is a moderate-to-small discovery considering the huge demand for hydrocarbon in the country,” an analyst remarked.
