KARACHI:

A four-year-old child was burnt to death in a blaze which broke out in shacks alongside Dalmia Road.

As a result, about 10 shacks were reduced to ashes. Five fire brigade vehicles finally contained the blaze.

A fire broke out in the huts situated on a vacant plot in the Central Government Society on Dalmia Road in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Block in the Shahrah-e-Faisal police limits. The blaze quickly intensified, while fire brigade officials could not determine the cause.

Police claimed the fire was caused by a short circuit.

As soon as the fire was reported, the police rushed to the spot and immediately called the fire brigade. Three fire tenders initially reached the spot and launched efforts to control the blaze.

Meanwhile, fire brigade personnel summoned two more tenders and after about an hour's effort, firefighters managed to contain the blaze. After the fire was extinguished, the burnt body of the child was recovered and shifted to the hospital for legal formalities.

Shahrah-e-Faisal SHO Mazhar Congo said that the child was identified as Tahir, 4, son of Rasheed. According to initial findings, the blaze erupted inside the shacks due to a short-circuit.

However, the deceased child's father said that there was a fire in the garbage from where a spark flew toward the shacks.
