Civil servants’ house rent ceiling increased

House-rent allowances are granted to eligible government employees who are not living in government houses

The federal government on Tuesday issued a notification regarding the increase in the house rent ceiling of civil servants working in different departments, ministries and divisions.

The house allowance of grade-20 to grade-21 has been increased by up to Rs 30,000. A grade-22 officer will get accumulatively Rs98,000 monthly house rent from the federal government. The house rent of employees from grade-1 to grade-6 has been increased up to Rs 3,000.

The civil servants from grade-11 to grade-13 will see an increase of Rs7,500 in house rent ceiling. Grade-14 to grade-16 civil servants will get up to Rs 9,000 house rent while grade-17 and grade-18 employees will receive up to Rs12,500 every month.

The civil servants in grade-7 to grade-10 will get Rs5,000 in house allowance. The federal cabinet had earlier approved a 44 per cent increase in the house rent allowance ceiling of government employees in view of high rents of residences in major cities, especially Islamabad.

Last week, briefing media about decisions taken by the federal cabinet, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry had said that the house rent ceiling of government employees was revised every three years and the PTI government had taken this step to provide relief to the federal government employees.
