LANDI KOTAL:

Customs officials posted at the Torkham border have seized illegal weapons being transported into Pakistan and arrested a few persons.

According to Customs Collector Amjid Ur Rehman, a tip-off was received regarding a suspicious vehicle transporting illegal arms into the country.

He added that customs officials stopped a vehicle full of vegetables and conducted a thorough search which led to the confiscation of weapons hidden in the lower parts of the vehicle.

11 pistols, three night vision goggles and AK47 parts and ammunition were recovered.

The driver managed to flee the site successfully when customs officials began searching the vehicle.

It is pertinent to mention that customs officials have taken special measures to limit the smuggling of weapons and foreign currency.

Sources familiar with the matter said many failed attempts have been made to smuggle illegal weapons into the country via the Torkham border.
