KARACHI:

A naanbai [bread maker], was shot dead near the Board of Secondary Education in North Nazimabad on Monday. The victim was a father of two.

The deceased was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he was identified as Lal Muhammad, 28, son of Baz Muhammad. The deceased was an Afghan national and had two gunshot wounds to his abdomen.

Victim's father, Baz Muhammad, told The Express Tribune that Lal Mohammad was a father to two children and a resident of Mujahid Colony near Mufti Rashid Mosque, Nazimabad.

The aggrieved father said that on the night between Sunday and Monday, Lal received a call on his cellphone and shortly after the call he went out. Later, some people came to his house and told him that Lal was injured in a firing incident. Baz rushed to the scene and saw his wounded son lying in a pool of blood inside a rickshaw. He rushed him to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital in the same rickshaw but Lal succumbed to his injuries on the way. Baz said that he had no idea who called his son before he was shot dead.

According to the police, the victim was involved in robbery incidents. During the month of Ramazan, Lal along with his other accomplices had robbed shops in Paposh Nagar market, following which he was arrested, said the police. The cops added that Lal was released on bail and routinely appeared before the court for the hearings of his case.
