Punjab Minister for Energy Dr Akhtar Malik along with Minister for Transport Jahanzaib Khan Khichi inaugurated biogas and solar power plant project at Chak No 563EB.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Akhtar Malik said that the biogas and solar plant project was completed at a cost of Rs120 million.

“The plant is expected to generate 300 kilowatt solar for around 300 homes while gas would be provided to 100 houses through a pipeline,” he stated.

The minister added that the power plant would be handed over to the local community after two years.

We can substantially reduce this bill by locally producing energy from cheaper sources,” Dr Akhtar underscored adding that efforts are under way to provide alternative power source for Vehari DHQ hospital to ensure sustainable energy supply.

Dr Akhtar said 852 schools of the district have been shifted to solar energy while 42 basic health centers would be shifted soon.

He maintained that more biogas projects would be completed in other villages to facilitate more people.

Provincial transport minister Jahanzaib Khan said such grassroots’
level projects are much more beneficial for the holistic development of the province.
