Miners and labour organisations of Shangla district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) have demanded of the re-opening of the Chromite mines in Lelnai as its closure had left hunderds of locals jobless.
They blamed the mine was functional for eight years but latter the area was included in the protected forests and the mine was closed down by force which left a large portion of the population jobless as 65 per cent of the population had been turned into miners due to this profitable mines.
They said that there was no industry or other job opportunities in the area and that was why people had no option but to work in mines which was a difficult and physical work and now closing a large mine was a decision which will create further joblessness in the area.
They demanded of the government to take notice of the situation and re-open the chromite mine in order to provide locals with job opportunities.
