KARACHI:

Opposition Leader in Sindh Assembly Haleem Adil Sheikh has strongly criticised the Sindh government for allegedly trying to embezzle huge money in the form of purchasing 16,000 school desks. He said, the Sindh government is ready to purchase school desks at a rate of Rs29,000 per desk, while, he claimed that the same desk he purchased from the local furniture market for Rs5,000.

Sheikh purchased and brought the desk to the House and held a press conference, sitting on the same desk.  He said, the provincial government is trying to embezzle billions of rupees under their plan.  “I am grateful to the Transparency International for pointing out the corruption in procurement of desks,” he mentioned.

“High level investigations are needed to curb this corruption. This is how Sindh’s budget is consumed by these ministers. I am grateful to the media who pointed out and raised the issue,” he added. “Saeed Ghani is behind this scam. The Sindh education minister should bring the desk and inform the assembly why such expensive desks are being bought. Are these desks made of gold?”
