'Our pride': Celebs honour martyrs, soldiers to mark Defence Day

Pakistan observed September 6 with heartfelt tributes from various public figures and anthems by renowned artists.

Pakistan observed Defence Day with some heartfelt tributes from various public figures and songs by renowned artists who made us all nostalgic with their remembrance of our heroes.

Among them was Ali Zafar, who released a song, titled Ura Mein in collaboration with Pakistan Air Force (PAF), to pay tribute to the armed forces on the occasion. In a similar fashion, Atif Aslam also released a Defence Day anthem and the internet adored both tracks.

And while Twitter also burst with rib-tickling Nida Yasir memes following her F1 query, actors like Mahira Khan, Humayun Saeed and Adnan Siddiqui honoured the soldiers on the frontline with their messages.

Khan, who's gearing up to play Lieutenant General Nigar Johar in upcoming television serial Ek Hai Nigar, took to her Twitter handle to send a message to the soldiers of Pakistan. She wrote, "To the soldiers of my country that stand on the frontlines to protect us – I salute you." The Superstar actor added, "Pakistan Zindabad, Pakistan Paaindabad."

Saeed also took to the micro-blogging site to salute the men and women who’ve kept us all safe. He wrote, "Our heroes, our pride, our strength, the biggest salute to our sons and daughters of this most precious soil for working tirelessly day and night to protect us. Special prayers for our beloved martyrs; may Allah bless you all.”

Siddiqui, who's been in the news lately for his collaborations with Turkish filmmakers, chimed in saying, "Taking #DefenceDay as another opportunity to once again thank our heroes and warriors who have laid down their lives in the service of our great nation. We owe our good night’s sleep to you, much gratitude.”
