Umer Sharif is well and home, confirms family

A picture of the veteran comedian in a wheelchair, apparently at a hospital, went viral on social media recently

LAHORE:

Veteran artist Umer Sharif recently became the talk of the town when a picture of him in a wheelchair, apparently at a hospital, went viral on social media. In the picture, the renowned comedian was seen in a frail state, which propelled worrying messages from fans and followers who started praying for his speedy recovery.

In a tweet that made rounds on Twitter, it was claimed that Umer is suffering from a life-threatening ailment and is currently hospitalised due to the same. However, speaking to The Express Tribune, a close source to the artist's family confirmed that Umer is well and is home.

"The picture isn't recent," the insider told the publication. "He has been going to the hospital for his routine checkup but it's nothing serious for now. He has been unwell due to his heart issues, but he's not under any life-threatening illness."

In 2017, the news of the (fake) death of the Pakistani comedian began circulating over social media and when fans began mourning and sharing thousands of messages on his passing, Sharif’s son Jawad Umer later had to post a statement, clarifying that his father was still alive and well. A photo of Umer in a hospital bed was doing the rounds and somehow, that led to the fake news of his death.
