Witness Protection Act 2021 tabled in K-P Assembly

Scrutiny of witnesses will be the responsibility of WPU

PESHAWAR:

The Witness Protection Act 2021 aimed at protection of witnesses in court cases was presented in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Monday.

Upon the approval of the bill, the witnesses in terrorism and criminal cases will be protected.

Under the proposed bill, a protection unit will be set up to ensure the safety of witnesses.

The unit will determine the security of witnesses according to the nature of the court case. According to the bill, the protection of life and property of the witness will be the responsibility of the Witness Protection unit while the witness will be shifted to a safe place if the circumstances demand so.

The scrutiny and identification of the witnesses will also be the responsibility of the Witness Protection Unit.
